Kyoto University

Kyoto University used to be the second oldest imperial university in Japan. Now, this university is the second highest rank of all Japanese universities in “QS World University Rankings 2016/17”. This university advocates “academic freedom” and has produced 6 Novel Prize winning scientists. Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi used to study in this university. She visited this university again and accepted its honorary doctorate in November 2016.
Kyoto University has 10 faculties and many graduate schools. The varieties of faculties are Integrate Human Studies, Letters, Education, Science, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, and Agriculture. The graduation ceremony of this university is so famous. If you want to know the reason, google it and see some pictures.


By the way, although the size of both cities is similar, Kyoto and Sapporo have totally different characteristics. While Sapporo is the newest major city in Japan, Kyoto has the long history of more than 1,000 years and used to be the capital of Japan. If you visit both cities within few days, you might not be able to believe that both cities belong to the same country.
