Japanese author 4: Kuroki Ryo

Until now, I’ve introduced some national authors. Since now, I want to introduce “Regional authors” which mean authors born in Hokkaido. They are less famous than the national authors but are writing many novels worth to read. Although I haven’t read such author’s novels enough to argue to point out specific regional common points, I’ve felt some similarities among their novels.

One of such regional authors is Kuroki Ryo. He was born in 1957 in a small town of Hokkaido. After graduating from a local high school, he enrolled at Waseda University. At the university, he played an active role in marathon relay races. After graduating from the university, he began to work for a bank. A few years later, he was sent to Egypt by the bank to study abroad and got a master degree. Then he worked in Britain and some foreign countries as an international businessman. During the work, he began to write novels. After writing some popular novels, he became a full-time writer in 2003.

He has been writing many business novels based on his experience and huge collected information. Thus, his novels describe the detail of business and have a sense of reality. On the other hand, each story doesn’t seem to have a specific conclusion like denouement or catastrophe. In his novels, people seem to keep working after the end of novels. This may be his and most people’s reality. Life goes on and we have to work.
