Freestyle skiers in the Snow festival
When I was walking the venue of Sapporo snow festival, the air shows of freestyle skiers had just started in 3 chome of Odori site. So I stopped there and watched the performance. It was 5 o’clock in the evening and getting dark, but I didn’t feel cold so much. So I could stay for a while. Firstly, the moderator introduced the skiers one by one when they performed. I was surprised a little because they were so young. The youngest skier was an 11 years old girl. When I was 11

SAPPORO YUKITERRACR 2017
SAPPORO YUKITERRACR 2017 is a project to display some arts and light up them in AKAPLA, kita-3jo plaza. There are 4 snow domes and some creations in them. “ICE BAR”, a stall which serves hot drinks is also in this place. I think this name is not so good. It sounds cold. This plaza is next to Akarenga terrace. Before coming to this event, I took a rest in Akarenga terrace. After healing my fatigue in the building, I went outside to see the illumination in this event. It was be

Nakajima Park
It is easy to go to Nakajima Park from the downtown of Sapporo. It takes only a few minutes from Odori or Sapporo station by the subway Namboku Line. After going out from the exit of Nakajima Koen Station, you will find this park soon. Nakajima Park has a concert hall, an astronomical observatory, a puppet theater for children and some historical buildings. In summer, a big festival is held in this park. Nowadays, many people come to this park on weekends because here is a fa

Sapporo Clock Tower
Sapporo Clock Tower was built as the hall of Hokkaido University in 1878. It was moved to the current place, opposite the city hall of Sapporo in 1906. Sapporo Clock Tower is one of the most symbolic monuments of Sapporo. Whenever I go to the downtown, I can find this old fashion building as an accent among modern buildings. However, I went into the building only a few times. The importance of this building is its appearance, same as the Status of Liberty or Pyramids. Sapporo

Sapporo White Illumination
Sapporo white illumination is an event which displays electric spectaculars in the parks and the main streets of the downtown. The events have been held since 1981. This event is held since early winter because it started for attracting tourists in low season. In summer, they come to Sapporo to get relief from the heat. In addition, they come to see snow festivals in the depth of winter. The local business wanted to attract tourists between these two high seasons. On a warm d

Munich Christmas Market in Sapporo
Sapporo has been a sister city of Munich in Germany since Olympic Games were held in both cities in 1972. As the 30th anniversary of this relationship, Munich Christmas Market in Sapporo started in 2002. In the venue of Odori Park, there are many stands and food stalls. A few days ago I went there to buy some snacks for a lunch. Since I went there in the morning, not so many visitors were in the venue. Some of them seemed tourists. When I bought a snack at a food stall, the

Susukino
Susukino is one of the most famous amusement areas in Japan. There are many restaurants, hotels, movie theaters, bars, nightclubs and so on in this area. Many tourists have come from all sides and spend money. The function of this area was crucial for the development of Sapporo. The government built this area to keep attracting the workers developing Sapporo in 1871. Since then, residents of Susukino have changed frequently as time goes by, but it seems that the essence of th

Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery
Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery is the honorable factory of malt whiskey in Japan. This distillery was founded by Masataka Taketsuru, “The father of Japanese whisky”. He is also known as the main character of “MASSAN”, the NHK morning Drama Series. He chose Yoichi town to found the distillery because its climate is similar to Scotland, the home of whisky. I have several occasions to visit there because Yoichi is near from Sapporo. I think its whisky is a masterpiece without
